WhatsApp Testing New AI Stickers Which Lets Users Create Images from Text
WhatsApp has started testing an AI-powered sticker generator that allows users to create images directly from text descriptions. The feature is currently in limited beta testing on Android, but promises to change how users express themselves on the popular messaging platform.
Using generative AI technology provided by parent company Meta, the new sticker tool allows WhatsApp beta testers to generate personalized graphics simply by providing a text prompt. This mimics how DALL-E and other AI art models currently work, empowering users to visualize their ideas without any design skills.
However, concerns remain about inappropriate content that could spread rapidly through WhatsApp's extensive network. The service has grappled with viral misinformation before, so moderating AI-generated media may prove challenging. watermarks or report options are suggested, but oversight details are scarce for now.
While only a small experiment, WhatsApp aims to rollout the AI sticker generator to more beta testers in coming weeks. iPhone users will have to keep using emojis and stock assets until further development. But this reveals WhatsApp's interest in AI creativity tools that could fundamentally change expressing oneself on the ubiquitous chat platform.
