1. Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your journey to founding Visium?
I’m Alen Arslanagic, the founder & CEO of Visium. I grew up in Ticino, southern Switzerland.
I’ve started my entrepreneurial journey at the same time of starting my business university studies. I founded a real estate renovation services company that I developed and sold five years later, roughly 10 years ago. Around that time, I realized how transformative AI would end up becoming over the course of this century and it became crystal clear that I wanted to play a role in it. That’s when I started my second degree in Computer Science.
We started playing around with the early deep learning models on image generation when it became apparent how big of a gap there was between the state of the art of technology and how companies were operating. That is when we founded Visium, to support enterprise companies in implementing and scaling AI solutions across their operations.
Fast forward to today and we have a team of over 70 amazing AI engineers and consultants working on some of the most cutting edge and mission critical use-cases, from drug discovery to live banking transaction monitoring for frauds. And we are just at the beginning of our journey.
2. As a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and one of the top 100 most influential Swiss people, how do you see these recognitions impacting your work and Visium’s growth?
Recognitions are always a pleasant surprise however the merits are fully due to the broader Visium team who enabled all we have achieved to date. In terms of impacting our growth, such recognitions help establish trust faster with future clients and partners and they give access to a unique network of great individuals across all sectors, which is always helpful.
3. Visium has delivered over 250 AI and data solutions to more than 50 enterprise clients. Can you share a case study that best exemplifies the impact of your work?
Some of the applications that get me most excited about the potential of AI are within Pharma and Healthcare.
We are currently working with a leading pharma company on improving their drug-discovery processes and have built AI models that help optimize the end to end process. From generating candidates, to predicting their characteristics and stability, ranking and selecting the best ones; ultimately increasing the process efficiency and drastically reducing costs of developing new drugs. Solving these complex R&D challenges is a mission critical endeavor that can help bring life saving treatments to the market faster as well as tremendously impact the future of the company.
In this case we talk about a long term initiative as passing the various stages of the drug-development process can take a decade.
In terms of other cases, we have helped clients streamline their engineering processes by leveraging AI Agents across the software development lifecycle and have helped train them to use these tools, unlocking up to 40% additional productivity. In the case of companies with 1’000+ engineers, it quickly adds up to transformative business benefits.
A final example, relates to having helped an insurance client optimize their pricing and generate a bottom line impact of 25M Swiss Francs within 2 years.
4. The Financial Times recognized Visium as the 2nd fastest-growing company in Switzerland. What do you attribute this rapid growth to, and how do you plan to sustain it?
Our growth is the result of two core strengths: exceptional talent and a relentless focus on delivering measurable value through end-to-end AI & Data services: strategic AI advisory and tailored AI & Data solutions.
At Visium, we’ve assembled a team that combines deep technical expertise, many Visumees with PhDs in machine learning and engineering, along with strong business acumen gained at leading consulting firms such as BCG X and McKinsey. This dual capability allows us to design and implement solutions that are not only technically advanced but also aligned with our clients’ strategic objectives and compliance requirements.
We’ve never believed in “plug-and-play” AI solutions. Every engagement is fully customized to the client’s context, enabling us to navigate complex regulatory landscapes while driving tangible business outcomes.
To sustain this momentum, we invest heavily in continuous learning. In a world where advancements like Agentic AI are accelerating change faster than ever before, this commitment ensures we stay ahead of the curve.
We have also heavily invested in building assets and accelerators enabling us to offer truly tech-enabled services. With an ever expanding portfolio of Agentic AI solutions complementing our bespoke services. This will enable faster value for our clients, reinforcing our reputation for excellence, whilst also strengthening our growth engine
5. You’ve mentioned that AI is not just an add-on but the core of your business. How does this philosophy translate into the solutions you provide for clients?
You are right, at Visium AI is what we do. From day one, we have made a deliberate choice to become an AI-only company. We decided to be one of the first ones in the market that focuses exclusively on AI engineering solutions. That singular focus has shaped our culture, our expertise and our delivery model.
We have built an AI success framework, we cover everything from strategic planning and capability building to data platform implementation and deployment, always with AI’s transformative potential at the center. This ensures that our clients don’t stop at adapting AI, but experience getting the measurable business impact from it.
While many providers have bolted AI into traditional offerings, often forcing it into outdated models we designed our approach for building AI solutions from the ground up. The results we are achieving: faster adoption, higher ROI, and transformation roadmaps for long term success.
Every project starts with responsibility: our ethics committee reviews proposed projects to ensure the solutions we deploy will create value, uphold safety, and present no unacceptable risk.
From there, we take a strategy-first approach: identifying high-impact AI use cases, assessing data readiness, and creating a clear roadmap that aligns with the client’s business goals. Our engineering teams design cloud-native, enterprise-grade platforms that integrate data infrastructure, governance, and machine learning enablement.
Delivery is end-to-end at Visium. From concept to MVP to production, backed by robust governance, MLOps, and lifecycle management to ensure every solution is secure, compliant, and scalable. We embed AI capabilities into the organisation for sustainable growth, not just a single project win.
Finally, we invest in people. We create tailored training so teams can understand, apply, and extend AI in their own work.
The combination of ethical rigor, strategic alignment, technical excellence, and capability-building is how we turn AI from a technology into a long-term competitive advantage for our clients.
6. Visium has a team of over 70 engineering experts, including former McKinsey and BCGX Partners. How do you ensure that this diverse expertise is leveraged effectively in your projects?
Every engagement at Visium is led by cross-functional teams that combine deep engineering expertise with strategic advisors who understand our clients’ industries and challenges.
Each client engagement is led by an Engagement Director who has deep exprtise in the specific client area of focus (e.g. AI for clinical documentation), who then can assemble his team based on the optimal engineering mix needed.
This structure ensures that from the outset, we’re designing solutions that are technically robust, commercially relevant, and compliant with sector-specific regulations.
We embed knowledge-sharing into our delivery model: engineers and strategists co-create architectures, iterate on prototypes, and validate impact together, and drive adoption
7. Can you elaborate on Visium’s new healthcare & life sciences AI platform? What specific challenges in the industry is it addressing?
Visium’s Agentic AI platform is purpose-built for the pharma and life science sector, addressing the industry’s unique combination of regulatory complexity, sensitive data, and demand for operational efficiency. Unlike generic AI tools, it deeply embeds within domain-specific workflows, includes the right compliance guardrails, and integrates capabilities from the ground up.
The platform tackles three core challenges:
1. Data privacy and security – ensuring AI operates within an organization’s existing ecosystem and governance framework, without compromising patient or research data.
2. Trust and reliability – eliminating the risk of AI hallucinations or context errors by incorporating explainability, confidence scoring, and human oversight.
3. Specialized workflow needs – replacing “one-size-fits-all” models with pre-packaged, customizable agents for scientific insight generation, compliant marketing content creation, and SOP adherence.
By enabling organizations to build, orchestrate, and monitor AI agents securely, while integrating seamlessly with tools like ERP, LIMS, CDMS, PubMed, and Veeva Vault, the platform compresses weeks of manual work into minutes. The result is accelerated R&D, more effective engagement with healthcare professionals and patients, and stronger compliance across the value chain.
8. The platform features AI agents for various tasks like scientific insights and compliant marketing content. How do you ensure these agents remain explainable and auditable?
We built the platform compliance-first. Every response shows a clear line of sight back to approved sources (e.g., protocol, label history), and each run is saved with the prompts used, model version, inputs, and approvals—so it can be replayed and reviewed at any time.
For high-risk use cases, humans approve content before publishing, and all records (including access logs, edits, e-signatures, and change history) comply with US and EU regulations for electronic systems. Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is automatically redacted to safeguard privacy while preserving full auditability.
The result: users see why an answer is correct, auditors have an audit-ready trail without extra paperwork, and organizations can demonstrate both trustworthiness and regulatory alignment from day one.
9. Your platform supports custom agent creation using natural language. How does this feature democratize AI use across different professional disciplines?
This is Agentic AI, not traditional “one-size-fits-all” AI. Business owners describe what they need in plain language; the platform turns that into governed workflows and agents, with no code required.
Our experience has shown that no company, process, or dataset is the same, and therefore we provide modular building blocks (retrieval, drafting, validation, approvals) and high value agents that professionals across functions can compose to get value faster and safer, while central IT/QA keeps guardrails, policies, and oversight. In short: power to the domain experts, control for the enterprise.
10. Visium has partnerships with companies like Roche, Novartis, and Nestlé. How do you tailor your AI solutions for such diverse industries?
The industries we serve are different, but our approach for each engagement is built on the same principles. We start by exploring the client’s strategic goals and objectives, then we design AI & data solutions that fit their unique context. And we have teams specialized across the industries we serve.
For a leader in pharma and life sciences, that might mean building AI systems that accelerate R&D while meeting the highest standards of data privacy, regulatory compliance, and model traceability. For a global food and beverage company, it could be optimising complex supply chains, enhancing demand forecasting, or enabling personalised customer engagement at scale.
We achieve excellent results by pairing experts with domain-specific knowledge and outstanding engineering capabilities. We always work with our clients in the loop. Together, we map critical workflows, adapt architectures, governance models, and deployment strategies to the realities of each sector.
11. As AI continues to evolve rapidly, how does Visium stay ahead of the curve in terms of technological advancements and industry trends?
At Visium, staying ahead of the curve is about more than keeping pace with technological change; it is about leading it with intention. We have built a culture where curiosity, experimentation, and responsibility move in lockstep.
That means we’re not chasing every shiny new thing; we’re deliberately investing in advancements that solve complex, high-stakes problems and create lasting value for people, industries, and society.
We’re deeply involved in the sectors we serve, so we can anticipate the challenges our clients will face tomorrow, not just respond to the ones they face today. Our teams are constantly experimenting with next-generation AI architectures, agentic systems, and domain-specific models, while our ethics committee ensures those breakthroughs are grounded in trust, safety, and compliance.
This allows us to turn emerging trends into tangible solutions, solutions that accelerate discovery, enhance decision-making, and ultimately improve lives. For us, staying ahead isn’t a speed race. For us, staying ahead means setting the standard for what responsible, transformative AI looks like in practice.
12. What are your thoughts on the ethical implications of AI in healthcare and life sciences? How does Visium address these concerns?
At Visium, ethical implications of AI are of the utmost importance. We take the ethical implications very seriously across all industries and sectors we serve.
We have established an independent Ethics Committee, composed of experts who review potentially sensitive or ethically complex engagements. Their role is to ensure that each project serves people, upholds privacy and safety, and aligns with societal benefit.
We have also created a structured framework that helps us follow a core pillar, which is democratizing AI for the good of society and businesses. Every team member has a voice in this process because we know AI ethics isn’t static; it requires constant dialogue, vigilance, and a commitment to responsible innovation.
In healthcare and life sciences, the stakes are particularly high. AI solutions can influence clinical decisions, patient outcomes, and the stewardship of sensitive health data. Here, our engineers can rely on our Ethics Committee and ethical framework to ensure transparency, explainability, bias mitigation, and strict adherence to regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA, and the EU AI Act.
13. Looking ahead, what’s your vision for Visium’s role in shaping the future of AI in enterprise solutions?
Visium is optimally positioned to be amongst the global leaders in terms of driving the enterprise AI impact.
We have the perfect mix of capabilities, world-class talent, and are set up to leverage reusable assets to accelerate time-to-value and scale AI. We seamlessly integrate Strategy & Engineering with a format of becoming truly strategic partners to our clients.
